Dr. Nirmal Ganguly, The Boston Univeristy Global Health Initiative’s 2008 Distinguished Visiting Scholar in Global Health visited the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future to meet the Director and Fellows at the Center and lead a discussion on future challenges in global health and development. he was accompanied by Prof. Jerry keusch, the Associate Provost for Global Health and Director of BU’s Global Health Initiative (GHI).

Dr. Ganguly is an immunologist and infectious diseases researcher, whose work has ranged across a number of areas of interest and he has an wide-ranging list of publications. He was Director of the Post-Graduate Institute in Chandighar, India prior to becoming Director-General of the Indian Council for Medical Research – the NIH of India. He is an academic who joined government service to run the premier national health sciences institute and managed to both revitalize and transform the organization during his tenure. He is Senior Advisor to the Health Minister, Advisor to the Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology of the Government of India and its developing Translational Health Science Technology Institute, and a consultant to several organizations in the private biomedical and translational research sector in India.

During his meeting with the Director and Fellows of the Pardee Center he learnt about their research and drew connections to the emerging challenges in the global health agenda, especially on its link to development.
