Research Fellow Gallagher on Bloomberg Television

Pardee Center Research Fellow Kevin P. Gallagher appeared on Bloomberg Television’s "In Focus" program on May 5 in a segment about the U.S. presidental elections and the economic impacts of NAFTA in Mexico.
While much of the discussion during the presidential campaign has focused on NAFTA’s effects on the U.S., Gallagher was asked to comment on how the trade pact has affected Mexico. He responded that NAFTA can be credited with significantly boosting exports and foreign investment in Mexico, helping correct imbalances in those areas that have plauged the country for more than two decades. In addition, he said, Mexico paralleled NAFTA with tight monetary policy, which tamed inflation, also a longstanding issue.
Gallagher is an assitant professor of international relations at Boston University.
