Jonathan Mijs
Assistant Professor of Sociology
I would like to do my part in creating an inclusive classroom and helping student navigate the unspoken norms and expectations faculty often have of their students: from the ‘right’ kind of questions to ask and ‘correct’ way to discuss a topic to the ‘legitimate’ motivation for asking these questions in the first place. As a first-generation immigrant myself, I had to learn these things the hard way. There is no reason why it needs to be hard. Learning these things is just as integral a part of the college and graduate school experience as is the content of your classes.
