Meredith Rowe, MA

Research Interests:

My research interests broadly lie at the intersection of neuropsychology and culture, and how neuropsychological tests might be placed on firmer scientific grounds to more appropriately measure and treat populations of patients who are from diverse or underserved backgrounds. I am also interested in sex differences, particularly in Alzheimer’s disease, and what factors may influence these sex differences.

Current Projects:

Under the co-mentorship of Dr. Yakeel Quiroz of the Multicultural Alzheimer’s Prevention Program (MAPP) at Massachusetts General Hospital, I have the opportunity to be involved in several projects. I am primarily involved in the Mobile Study, a study evaluating and validating novel, remotely administered neuropsychological tests to older adults in Spanish and English to detect subtle changes associated with preclinical Alzheimer’s disease. In the near future, I will begin with the Neuro Kids project, which will examine sex differences in brain development of children who are carriers of autosomal dominant Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, I am contributing as first author on a book chapter for the upcoming textbook Neuropsychology in the Age of Digital Health: Exploration, Application, and Implementation.

Relevant Experience:

I graduated from McGill University with a major in Psychology and a minor in Cultural Studies. During my time there, I contributed to research at the Montreal Neurological Institute and the Language and Multilingual Lab, studying the effects of auditory stimulation on memory during sleep using fMRI, EEG, and MEG, as well as the impact of bilingualism on irony comprehension. After graduation, I worked for three years as a psychometrist at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, where I administered neuropsychological tests to patients with brain tumors, traumatic brain injuries, movement disorders, epilepsy, and dementia. I was also actively involved in Wada procedures and observed neuropsychological testing during awake craniotomies. I then completed my master’s degree at Boston University under the supervision of Dr. Cronin-Golomb, where I gained experience with fNIRS and investigated sex differences in individuals’ experiences of Parkinson’s disease.

Hobbies and Interests:

I have always incorporated art and music into my life. I play flute and tenor saxophone, and I enjoy being involved with music whether it is playing it listening to it, or dancing to it. I love crafting and making art as well. I also enjoy cooking, baking, and exploring new restaurants.
