CMTM Faculty Wins BUSM Educator of the Year Award

Congratulations to Dr. Matthew Layne on winning the 2022 Educator of the Year award from the Boston University School of Medicine!

Dr. Layne is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at BUSM, as well as the Assistant Dean for Research at BUSM and a member of the BU-BMC Cancer Center, Evans Center for Interdisciplinary Research, Molecular Medicine Program, Genome Science Institute, and the Center for Multiscale & Translational Mechanobiology.  His laboratory has the primary goal of identifying novel pathways that control extracellular matrix (ECM) synthesis and assembly as they relate to fibroproliferative and connective tissue diseases, with the long term goal of using this knowledge to develop therapeutic strategies for these conditions.  Current active projects in his lab include:

• Investigating the mechanisms of how ACLP/AEBP1 mutations cause Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS)
• Defining the the role of ACLP in mechanotransduction pathways that control progenitor differentiation.
• Developing strategies to organ fibrosis through targeting ACLP
• Uncovering new mechanisms that control adipose tissue fibrosis.

He currently teaches Techniques Biomedical Research and Critical Thinking in Biomedical Research in BUSM’s Graduate School of Medicine.

Please join us in congratulating Matt on this honorable award!
