Celebrating the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
For the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (GRS’55) holiday this Monday, we looked into our collection to find some great resources to reflect on the work and life Dr. King.
The Music Library owns several audio recordings of Dr. King, including his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. We also have recordings of his wife, Coretta Scott King, talking about her husband’s life and legacy.
There are also pieces of music inspired by Dr. King and a recording of Mahalia Jackson singing his favorite hymns.
Wheelock College put together a reading list of educational titles for kids and adults about Dr. King that you can borrow from the Pickering Library or access online.
Additionally, Mugar Library has a Martin Luther King Jr. Reading Room where you can seem some of the Gotlieb Archive’s Martin Luther King, Jr. collection. Dr. King donated his papers to the library and the archive has more than 80,000 letters and related objects of his (including his briefcase). The reading room is usually closed on holidays but is open this Monday for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
