Alumni Spotlight: Augustine Jimenez
Alumni Spotlight is a series highlighting former affiliates of the Initiative on Cities (IOC). We catch up with our alumni to feature their current work, updates, and accomplishments. Today, we highlight Augustine Jimenez, a former NLC Menino Fellow with the Initiative on Cities.
Augustine Jimenez is a Program Associate in Achieve Atlanta’s Scholarship & Affordability team. In this role, Augustine manages the review of students’ scholarship applications and addresses any questions or concerns they may have regarding their scholarship.
Augustine was selected as the 2017-2018 Menino Fellow. He spent a semester researching affordable housing in Boston and another as an intern with the National League of Cities in Washington, D.C. Augustine credits his professional interests in urban policy with his motivation to pursue a career in public service. In 2019, Augustine was awarded the Harry S. Truman Scholarship. The policy proposal he submitted as part of his application package leaned heavily on the two-generation approach to poverty alleviation he learned about while working at the NLC. Augustine graduated with a bachelor’s in International Relations cum laude with honors with a security and policy functional track and a Middle East regional track from the Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University. He is also a Marine Corps Reservist, completing basic training in 2021.
