Michael Small Awarded 2023 IOC Student Prize

The Initiative on Cities (IOC) is proud to announce that Michael Small has been awarded the IOC Student Prize for the 2023 school year. The $1,000 prize is presented annually to one BU senior graduating with a minor in Urban Studies.

Michael is an Environmental Analysis and Policy major in the College of Arts and Sciences with a minor in Urban Studies from Skokie, Illinois. He added the minor sophomore year to explore the relationship between environmentalism and urban planning with a focus on public transportation. Professor Kwabena Kyei-Aboagye’s course in the Metropolitan College, Urban Environmental Issues (UA 610) was his favorite class.

After graduation, Michael is moving to Chicago and hopes to find a job in the public sector with an urban or environmental focus. Until he finds a full-time position, he looks forward to enjoying the post-grad life by taking bike rides, going to Cubs games, and of course, riding Chicago’s iconic ‘L’ trains.
