Karl Dean Completes Term as Mayor-In-Residence
Karl Dean, the former Mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee, completed his term as the first Initiative on Cities Mayor-in-Residence in May 2016. As Mayor-In-Residence, Mayor Dean spent the 2016 spring semester as a member of the IOC team on the Boston University campus, helping reinforce our focus on connecting the academic study of urban issues with the real-life governance of cities. Mayor Dean provided strategic guidance and helped develop a series of programs, including an upcoming workshop on urban immigration policy. He also taught an undergraduate course, The Contemporary American City, through a partnership with the Boston University Department of Political Science.
At the IOC, we continue to look for ways to engage urban leaders with students, faculty and staff at Boston University. We thank Mayor Dean for his service and his support of our mission.
