Submit a Focused Research Program (FRP) Proposal
The Hariri Institute for Computing’s Focused Research Programs (FRPs) support intensive, faculty-driven efforts in large, multi-disciplinary teams. The FRP mission is to evolve and advance Boston University’s research in computing, computational, and data-driven science and engineering around areas of strategic importance and emerging opportunity. The programs are designed to facilitate research convergence by providing “scaffolding” for groups to coalesce in sustainable ways, with the goal of accelerating research for future funding and broader impact.
Faculty interested in submitting a proposal are strongly encouraged to discuss their ideas as early as the fall with the Hariri Institute’s Director Yannis Paschalidis (yannisp@bu.edu). Funding decisions are typically made in April or May, following the spring meeting of the Hariri Institute Steering Committee.

Nominate a Junior Faculty Fellow
The Hariri Institute for Computing’s Junior Faculty Fellows program aims to both recognize outstanding early-career computing and data-driven researchers at Boston University and support their continued development by connecting them with one another and with the Institute community at large through various mechanisms and activities. The Institute encourages nominations that would enhance the diversity, broadly defined, of its Junior Faculty Fellows.
Since 2011, the Institute has awarded 89 Junior Faculty Fellows across 29 departments and eight colleges. From social sciences, humanities, law, business, and medicine to engineering, computer science, and statistics, the Junior Faculty Fellows Program is committed to enabling and supporting a community of researchers across BU schools and colleges.

Nominate a Graduate Student Fellow
The Hariri Institute for Computing’s Graduate Student Fellows program recognizes outstanding PhD students who are pursuing computing and data-driven research at Boston University. Continuing PhD students, in the 1st or 2nd year of their program, are eligible to be nominated for this honor (awarded, in turn, at the start of their 2nd or 3rd year, respectively). The Institute encourages nominations that would enhance the diversity, broadly defined, of its Graduate Student Fellows.
Since 2017, the Institute has awarded 60 Graduate Student Fellows. Please see here for our current Graduate Student Fellows.

BU AI Research Resource Program (BU-AIRR)
The BU AI Research Resource (BU-AIRR) is a resource program established by the Office of Research and the Hariri Institute for Computing aimed at enabling and seeding large-scale AI research at Boston University by funding access to powerful production cloud resources of the New England Research Cloud (NERC).

Red Hat Collaboratory Student Research Project Application
The Red Hat Collaboratory is able to support students and/or student groups on projects that aligns with the Collaboratory’s areas of focus including cloud testing & operations, artificial intelligence, security & privacy, hardware & software, and distributed systems. The effort may be associated with an existing project, or it may be new independent work. The mission is to provide funding for BU students to pursue research and experiential learning opportunities.
