FRP Call for Pre-proposals

The Hariri Institute for Computing’s FRPs support intensive, faculty-driven, multidisciplinary research teams working in areas of strategic importance and emerging opportunity. These programs are designed to advance Boston University’s leadership in computing, computational, and data-driven science and engineering by fostering research convergence and providing the foundation for long-term collaborations, future external funding, and broader societal impact.

Call for Proposals

The Hariri Institute invites pre-proposals for the FY27 Focused Research Program competition.

Submitting an FRP proposal is a two-stage process:

  • Pre-proposals due: February 4, 2027
  • Full proposals due: April 1, 2027

2027 Eligibility Update

All Boston University faculty are eligible to submit proposals and participate in FRPs. Eligibility requirements and participation limits have been revised for the 2027 FRP cycle. Faculty should review the updated eligibility criteria before developing or submitting a proposal.

Planning Your Proposal

Faculty interested in leading an FRP are strongly encouraged to discuss their ideas with Hariri Institute Director Yannis Paschalidis (yannisp@bu.edu) as early as the fall semester. Early conversations can help shape proposals and ensure alignment with the goals of the FRP program.

Funding decisions are typically announced in April or May following the Hariri Institute Steering Committee’s spring meeting.

For administrative questions, please contact Katherine D’Angelo, Associate Director, Programs and Events at ktd@bu.edu.
