GSO Commonwealth Avenue Reconstruction Committee Meeting
Commonwealth Ave reconstruction Phase 2A (from Amory Street to Alcorn Street on Comm Ave) is coming close to final design. The City of Boston intends to make several changes to the street, some good, some bad, and some inexplicable. We believe that the city’s design will reduce space for pedestrians, remove mature trees, increase speed of motor vehicles, and do nothing to help increase bicycle safety on a dangerous corridor. It is also unclear whether the MBTA will take this opportunity to finally fix many of the long-standing problems with Green Line service here.
A group of advocates from the region and students at BU are coming together for a discussion about Comm Ave’s future. We will discuss ways to improve the pedestrian friendliness of Comm Ave, fix the Green Line, and bring strong bicycle safety improvements that can be implemented as part of the street reconstruction project.
The meeting will be held Thursday October 9th at 5:30 PM in CAS 326 (705 Commonwealth Ave).
