The U.S. Presidential Election: Perspectives from Abroad

Veteran, Emmy-award-winning news anchor and BU journalism professor R.D. Sahl will conduct live, virtual interviews with BU students currently living around the world about the ways in which their host country is responding to the result of the U.S. presidential election. Students in Australia, France, Ireland, Kenya, and Turkey will share anecdotes, stories, and quotes, both serious and lighthearted, about the ways in which local businesses, government, non-profit, and cultural organizations are responding. Questions from the audience will be encouraged.

Moderator: R.D. Sahl

R.D. Sahl’s 35-year career in broadcast journalism has taken him to stories around the corner and around the world. Foreign assignments include: the former Soviet Union and the new Russia, Solidarity-era Poland, German unification, France, The Vatican, Japan, and Cuba. He’s covered national political conventions going back seven elections. Sahl first joined NECN in 1995 as host of NewsNight. He joined the network fulltime in 1997, anchoring thousands of newscasts on NECN until stepping down in December 2010 to join the faculty at Boston University. He remains a special correspondent at NECN. He’s received several regional Emmy awards for reporting and anchoring. Sahl holds a Journalism degree from the University of Colorado, and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.

AUSTRALIA
Brianna Bloodgood is a BU junior majoring in political science, with a minor in public health, and currently studying in the BU Sydney Internship Program.

FRANCE
Brendon Bowdridge is a BU junior majoring in international relations, with concentrations in Europe, and international law and world order, and currently studying in the BU Grenoble Language & Liberal Arts Program.

IRELAND
Chase Gorland is a BU sophomore majoring in history and currently interning at a law firm through the BU Dublin Internship Program.

KENYA
Krissy Glauser is a graduate student in the School of Public Health, with a concentration in international health, and currently working in Nairobi for Shining Hope for Communities, an organization that promotes gender equality by providing free education and social services to girls.

TURKEY
Paulina Muratore is a BU senior majoring in international relations, with concentrations in the Middle East and foreign policy, and currently studying at Bogaziçi University in Istanbul through a BU Study Abroad exchange program.
