Coping with the Emotional Rollercoaster of Separation and Divorce

This presentation helps individuals navigate the emotional and practical challenges of divorce with a focus on mindset and self-empowerment. It outlines the stages of grief, key coping strategies, and the identity shifts that follow a marriage’s end, including rebuilding social ties and routines. It also addresses parenting through divorce and effective co-parenting to reduce conflict and support children. Overall, it promotes a proactive, future-focused approach to moving through divorce with resilience and clarity.
Catharine Blake, LICSW specializes in helping families navigate divorce and co-parenting. She is a rostered Guardian Ad Litem, Co-Parenting Mediator and Divorce Coach.

Real Love Respects: Re-thinking Relationship Dynamics

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, a time that coincides with cultural celebrations of love surrounding Valentine’s Day. This presentation invites faculty and staff to reflect on what real love can look like by exploring values such as respect, communication, boundaries, and accountability within relationships.
Participants will gain a clearer understanding of the differences between healthy, unhealthy, and harmful relationship behaviors, with attention to dynamics that may impact themselves or those around them.
The workshop will also highlight practical tools for coping during difficult relationship experiences, ways to support someone who may be struggling, and thoughtful approaches for responding with care and compassion. Attendees will receive information about campus and local community resources and learn how our organization partners with the university to provide support, advocacy, and referrals.

Doss, Ph.D., Professor at the University of Miami and co-founder of OurRelationship, introduces a research-backed framework for strengthening relationships through a DEEP understanding of what really drives conflict and disconnection. Participants will learn how Differences, Emotions, External Stress, and Patterns of communication interact to shape relationship dynamics.
