When to Screen

Some additional indications for depression screening in adults:

  • experiencing major life changes
  • social isolation
  • family history of depression
  • financial strain
  • elderly age
  • two or more chronic diseases
  • headaches
  • sexual dysfunction or loss of libido
  • apathy
  • GI complaints (constipation, diarrhea etc.)
  • chronic pain (e.g., backache)
