Application Process Step-By-Step

This is a multi-step process in which we work to align each applicant’s educational, clinical care, research and career goals with department, institution, and patient needs.

  1. Applicant sends a cover letter and CV to BUFamilyMedicine@bmc.org. The DFM Recruitment Committee meets regularly to review all CVs and cover letters.
  2. A faculty committee member is assigned to conduct an informational meeting by telephone to explore the applicant’s areas of interest. Applicants are encouraged to discuss their preferences (inpatient, OB, outpatient, teaching, community health center, sports medicine, etc.).
  3.  Interviews, in person or by Zoom, are arranged with DFM leadership, depending on interests.
  4.  Applicants are given the option of interviewing with multiple outpatient clinical sites depending on clinical needs. Applicants are then asked to rank their choices of clinical sites.
  5. Recruitment Committee reviews applicants after interviews, applicants are then matched with clinical sites, based on applicants’ ranking and clinical needs.
  6. An invitation to join the department is sent from the Chair of Family Medicine. The Administrative Directors send a formal offer with a compensation plan.
  7. Applicant provides references (offer is dependent on references).
