Open Positions & Job Descriptions:
- Family Medicine Physicians-Especially those who do office-based procedures and/or practice POCUS
- FM-OB Physicians – Our Maternal Child Health team provides holistic, patient-centered care at a tertiary care center serving a diverse safety net patient population. We have a unique collaborative model of care, partnering with our colleagues in OB-GYN, midwifery, and pediatrics. Preference will be given to experienced surgical FM-OB candidates.
- FM Hospital Medicine Providers – Seeking both full-scope FM and FM hospitalist to work full- or part-time providing holistic, patient-centered care at a high acuity tertiary care center that serves a diverse safety net patient population. We have an academic teaching service and direct care roles, including days evening, and overnight.
- Sports Medicine – Seeking a family medicine provider with Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine to provide sports medicine care for patients at Melnea Cass (BMC’s primary family medicine site) and Manet Community Health Center in North Quincy. Flexibility to provide some primary care at Melnea Cass if desired.
- Academic Fellows– Fellows do a mix of clinical work at BU Medical Center and independent research while earning their Masters of Science degree at BU School of Public Health. In collaboration with General Internal Medicine and General Pediatrics, we train approximately 15 fellows per year. Our graduates have successfully obtained K awards that have led to major research funding, and productive careers in academic medicine, research, administration, public health, and medical education
- FM Researchers – Join our growing group of clinician-researcher in an environment that supports scholarship. Our hospital just added a Chief Science Officer and Boston University has a robust CTSI.

This is a multi-step process in which we match each successful applicant with the educational, clinical services, and clinical sites of their choice, depending on departmental needs.

- How long does this process take?
Because multiple clinical services and sites require interviews, this process may take several weeks to months, depending on the applicant’s availability. If you are under a timeline, we ask that you let us know. It takes about 6 months for Massachusetts medical licensing and BMC credentialing, so we recommend you start applying for your Massachusetts medical license as soon as possible. Delays may result in hiring dates later than desired. - What is a full-time position?
For outpatient clinical work, a full-time position is 32 bookable patient-facing hours/ week. - Who do I contact with questions?

Step 1 – Applicant sends a cover letter and CV to BuFamilyMedicine@bmc.org
The DFM Recruitment Committee meets regularly to review all CVs and cover letters.
Step 2 – A faculty committee member is assigned to conduct an informational meeting by telephone to explore the applicant’s areas of interest.
Applicants are encouraged to discuss their preferences (inpatient, OB, outpatient, teaching, community health center, sports medicine, etc)
Step 3 – Interviews, in person or by Zoom, are arranged with DFM leadership, depending on interests.
Step 4 – Applicants are given the option of interviewing with multiple outpatient clinical sites depending on clinical needs. Applicants are then asked to rank their choices of clinical sites.
Step 5 – Recruitment Committee reviews applicants after interviews, applicants are then matched with clinical sites, based on applicant’s ranking and clinical needs
Step 6 – An invitation to join the department is sent from the Chair of Family Medicine. The Administrative Director sends a formal offer with a compensation plan
Step 7 – Applicant provides references (offer is dependent on references)
