Campus LX is BU’s university-wide initiative to strengthen the learning environment that supports teaching and learning across our campuses.

Originally launched to guide BU’s transition to Blackboard Ultra, Campus LX established a modern, shared foundation for BU’s learning management environment. With that transition nearly complete, Campus LX is evolving from a transformation initiative into an ongoing commitment to ensuring that BU fully leverages its core learning ecosystem to support excellent teaching and meaningful student learning.

As teaching practices, student expectations, and educational technologies continue to change, the learning environment must evolve with them. Campus LX brings together faculty, academic leaders, and partners from across BU to identify opportunities for improvement, evaluate new capabilities, and ensure that technology, pedagogy, accessibility, assessment, and emerging tools work together effectively.

Campus LX brings together expertise from across Boston University, including the Institute for Excellence in Teaching & Learning, BU Virtual, Information Services & Technology, faculty, and academic leaders within BU’s schools and colleges.

Through this collaboration, Campus LX helps BU make thoughtful, coordinated decisions about the technologies and capabilities that shape the learning experience—while creating opportunities to share effective practices and innovations across BU.

From Platform Transformation to Continuous Improvement

Blackboard Ultra provides an important foundation, but Campus LX extends beyond the platform itself. This initiative creates a coordinated approach for continuously improving the broader learning experience—considering how faculty teach, how students engage and learn, how courses make effective use of technology, and where new capabilities can add meaningful value. This work is guided by a simple principle: teaching and learning come first. Technology should enable effective educational practices, make the learning experience more accessible and engaging, and help faculty respond to changing student needs and expectations.
