The environment in which we teach—and the world for which we are preparing students—is changing rapidly. Students are arriving with new expectations, experiences, and ways of learning. AI is reshaping how they access information, develop ideas, solve problems, and demonstrate what they know. At the same time, disciplines and professions are evolving, changing the knowledge, skills, and experiences students will need to succeed at BU and beyond.

These shifts make it increasingly important to revisit our courses and curricula—not simply how we teach, but what we teach, what we ask students to do, and how the learning experience prepares them for what comes next. Courses need to remain current with developments in their disciplines, responsive to new technologies and ways of working, and intentional about helping students develop the knowledge and capabilities they will carry into their careers and lives.

The Collaborative.

The Collaborative creates a university-wide space for this work. In partnership with faculty, departments, schools, and colleges, the Collaborative supports course and curricular redesign at multiple levels—from rethinking assignments and assessments to redesigning high-demand courses, examining sequences of courses, and exploring new models for learning. The goal is thoughtful, evidence-informed approaches that strengthen student learning while keeping the academic experience relevant, engaging, and sustainable.
