Boston University has been recognized with Blackboard’s 2026 Catalyst Leading Change Award, an international honor recognizing institutions that demonstrate leadership in advancing teaching and learning through transformational change.
The award recognizes the vision and collaborative work behind Boston University’s Campus LX Transformation Initiative, a university-wide effort led in partnership by BU Virtual and the Institute for Excellence in Teaching & Learning, with colleagues across the University, to create a shared digital teaching and learning foundation that supports students throughout their academic journey while enabling high-quality learning experiences across residential, hybrid, and online environments.
Campus LX reflects Boston University’s commitment to continuously enhancing the teaching and learning experience by thoughtfully leveraging technology, strengthening support structures, and creating opportunities for faculty innovation. As part of this broader initiative, the University adopted Blackboard Ultra alongside a range of enhancements designed to create a more connected, flexible, and sustainable digital teaching and learning environment.
The success of Campus LX has been driven by collaboration across the University, including colleagues from BU Virtual, the Institute for Excellence in Teaching & Learning, Information Services & Technology, academic leadership, and faculty partners. Together, these teams have worked to strengthen the digital teaching and learning environment by integrating modern technologies, support services, and practices that empower faculty to design engaging, high-quality learning experiences while maintaining the flexibility to teach in ways that best support their disciplines, pedagogical approaches, and students.

By strengthening connections across the academic journey and expanding the capabilities of the BU’s digital teaching and learning environment, BU is better positioned to support teaching excellence, student success, and academic innovation.
