Quo Vadis, Europe?
“Quo Vadis Europe” was an event that took place at Boston University on September 29th, 2016, featuring Joachim Fritz-Vannahme, director of the think tank Europe’s Future at the Bertelsmann Stiftung, and moderator Vivian Schmidt. One of the most important scholars on Europe, Fritz-Vannahme has also held the position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief and European Editor in Brussels for the newspaper Die Zeit. He worked there for over 15 years. Since 2007, Fritz-Vannahme has been director of the Europe’s Future program at the Bertelsmann Stiftung.
Vivien Schmidt is Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Boston University. She is also the Founding Director of BU’s Center for the Study of Europe.
During the discussion and with help from Vivien Schmidt, Fritz-Vannahme spoke about the path that Europe was taking, what the word “Europe” even means, and how Europe should act next. Americans should be conscious of these issues because of how closely knitted the global arena has become, especially as far as the international economy goes.
WBUR aired this discussion on December 4th, 2016.
