Event Highlights: The Emperor’s New Road: China and the Project of the Century

This virtual book talk by Jonathan Hillman, Senior Fellow and Director of the Reconnecting Asia program at CSIS, took place on Friday, October 13, 2020. Hillman presented his new book, The Emperor’s New Road: China and the Project of the Century, which has just been published by Yale University Press. In this talk, organized by the Center for the Study of Europe at Boston University, Hillman highlighted Europe in China’s Belt and Road and then turned to impacts on the ground and the road ahead.

Philippe Le Corre, Research Associate with the Ash Center and the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government at the Harvard Kennedy School, and Min Ye, Associate Professor of International Relations at BU’s Pardee School of Global Studies, participated as discussants. The event was moderated by Grant Rhode, also of BU’s Pardee School of Global Studies.

This event took place as part of the Pardee School of Global Studies’ program ASSESSING CHINA’S BELT AND ROAD INITIATIVE. The Initiative is sponsored by the Boston University Pardee School of Global Studies and its African Studies Center, Center for the Study of Asia, Center for the Study of Europe, Center for Latin American Studies, the Global Development Policy Center, Institute on Culture, Religion & World Affairs, and the Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future.
