Event Highlights: Bulgarian Voices

On Thursday, October 9, the Center for the Study of Europe hosted its second “Bulgarian Voices” event. Sponsored by the Bulgarian-American Center Madara, the event featured a presentation of Mystical Emona: Soul’s Journey by Nelly Tonchev and Rebecca Carter, an exploration of Bulgarian folklore and traditions, many dating back to times of the ancient Thracians; a bass flute performance by Geni Skendo, featuring original compositions and new arrangements of songs from Olivier Mesiaen, Afrigan pygmies, and the Balkans; and a dance performance by Ludo Mlado. The theme of the evening was “love, light, and rituals.”
