BRT Reporting
All complaints or incidents related to a person’s characteristics that are protected by law – such as shared ancestry, ethnicity, race, national origin, religion, gender, age, and others (a complete list is included in the Interim Equal Opportunity & Sexual Misconduct Policy) – must be reported through the University’s Equal Opportunity Office (“EOO”). The EOO Intake Team will review these complaints to see if they fall under the EOO’s scope. If not, the team will decide if the complaint is bias-related and should be sent to the BRT.
Examples of reports falling outside of EOO’s purview that will be referred to BRT include, but are not limited to, those involving:
- Campus Climate Concerns
- Protected Speech or Activity
- Anonymous Reports
- Unknown Respondent(s)
How to Report
You can use the Incident Report Form available to all students, staff, and faculty to begin the reporting process with EOO. Additionally, you can contact EOO directly at eoo@bu.edu. For more information about what happens after submitting an Incident Report, please visit https://www.bu.edu/eoo/get-help-now/report/.
For dangerous and threatening behavior, please contact the BU Police Department immediately at 911 or 617-353-2121 (Charles River and Fenway Campuses) and 617-358-4444 (Medical Campus).
There are several other support resources available on campus regardless of whether you make a report. These include the Office of the Ombuds, Behavioral Medicine, the University Chaplains, and the Faculty & Staff Assistance Office. A full list of resources is available on the Get Help Now page of the EOO website
For any questions regarding the BRT’s scope or process, please contact bias@bu.edu.
