MA Earth & Environment Student
John Stewart is a senior leadership gift officer at WBUR. A key role he plays on staff is mobilizing resources to support WBUR’s award-winning environmental coverage, both locally and nationally.
Prior to WBUR, John worked for more than a decade as a grassroots organizer, campaign director, and resource mobilizer for Corporate Accountability, a global human rights and environmental organization based in Boston. While there, he advanced campaigns challenging the privatization of water, implementing the world’s first and only public health treaty on tobacco control, and supported the launch of its climate campaign geared towards insulating the UNFCCC from the influence of Big Polluters.
John’s undergraduate degree is in Spanish and Latin American Studies at Georgetown and he just completed a graduate certificate in Applied Sustainability through BU’s Metropolitan College.
A life-long learner, he’s excited to dive deeper into climate and energy policy at the city level and think about its intersections with global challenges in addressing housing, immigration, and rising authoritarianism.
When he’s not thinking about development strategy, John is usually strategizing with his wife about how to wrangle their two young children in Roslindale, listening to podcasts, writing or telling stories, or connecting with family.
