Professor, Chair, & Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future

On August 6th, 2019, Anthony “Tony” Janetos passed away from pancreatic cancer.

Anthony Janetos was an internationally renowned climate change expert known for his fearless dedication to truth and evidence-based science. As Director of BU’s Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future and Professor and Chair of Earth & Environment, he bridged disciplines to address climate change, guiding projects at NASA, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Joint Global Change Research Institute. His leadership extended to national and international climate assessments and BU’s Climate Action Plan Task Force, which laid the foundation for significant institutional sustainability efforts.

We remember him as a visionary scientist, compassionate mentor, and dedicated friend whose interdisciplinary approach and kindness enriched the BU community and beyond.
