BU D&I STARS

Launched in fall 2022, BU D&I STARS (Supporting Thriving, Achievement, Retention, & Success) is a learning community of up to 20 early career BU faculty on the Charles River Campus who meet regularly throughout the academic year to engage in professional development, mentoring, wellness, and community-building opportunities. BU D&I STARS supports faculty from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the academy who are within their first-ever two years of a faculty appointment.

BU D&I Summit

The goal of the BU D&I Summit is to share actionable information and resources with colleagues to adapt and implement within their own units. This inaugural D&I Summit will be structured as a mini-conference, with sessions running concurrently that attendees can choose from.

Designing Antiracist Curriculum Fellowship

In alignment with BU’s strategic priority of fostering vibrant student academic experiences, the Designing Antiracist Curricula (DAC) Fellowship was developed to meet this moment. Through the design of new or redesign of existing courses, the DAC Fellowship instructs faculty in the integration of antiracist pedagogical principles and course development in service of creating inclusive, antiracist learning environments, preparing students for engagement in antiracist activities beyond the classroom, and promoting critical thinking about the historical legacies of racism in their disciplines and beyond.

Faculty Diversity

As a member of the Association of American Universities, Boston University is committed to the highest levels of intellectual and creative achievement and to developing an extraordinary, world-class faculty. Crucial to that mission is a significantly increased breadth of cultural, racial, and ethnic diversity among our teaching and research ranks.

We seek to normalize the inclusion within our 17 schools, colleges, research centers, and departments of people who are underrepresented in academia, including faculty and scholars from marginalized racial, ethnic, social, and religious groups. In service of this goal, the University has developed several programs to assist our search efforts and serve as a resource to better enable our faculty.

Inclusive Pedagogy Institute

The Inclusive Pedagogy Initiative and the Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL), together with CAS Diversity & Inclusion and Boston University Diversity & Inclusion (BU D&I), are pleased to announce the third annual Inclusive Pedagogy Institute (BU IPI). The BU IPI offers a unique opportunity for participants to come together to consider innovative course design, classroom techniques, and departmental engagement practices that create inclusive and supportive learning environments.

Learn More Series

Each year, we devote ourselves to investigating a single topic of social importance through our Learn More Series. This signature series features nationally renowned speakers, workshops, panel discussions, film screenings, reading groups, and many other forms of engagement spanning the entire academic year.

Through this rigorous exploration, BU D&I seeks to spark new learning, catalyze important conversations, and equip faculty, staff, and students with tools to turn theory into action. Understanding that we are stronger in community, we invite and actively encourage BU community members to help shape the series each year through working groups and grant-funded projects.
