Faculty Search Training
As we look forward to another season of faculty searches and hires, please be reminded that all members of faculty search committees on the Charles River Campus are required to attend BU D&I’s training, Diversifying the Faculty: Best Practices for Inclusive Hiring. If you completed this training during AY 23-24, you are not required to attend again. If you aren’t sure about the last date you attended, you can confirm with us by emailing odi@bu.edu.
Register for a summer session now! As the Fall semester approaches, more training dates will become available. While this training is required for all CRC faculty search committee members and tailored specifically to faculty searches, we welcome the attendance of others, including staff and Medical Campus faculty. Register for a Zoom training session below:

BU Faculty Recruitment Committees
BU has non-evaluative faculty recruitment committees consisting of faculty of various identities. Faculty candidates may opt to meet with Recruitment committee members during their interview process. Recruitment Committees intend to provide faculty candidates with an opportunity for informational interviews and candid conversations where candidates can ask questions and have honest discussions about their experiences at BU and in the Greater Boston Area. The current recruitment committees are:
- BU Faculty of Color Recruitment Committee
- LGBTQIA+ Faculty Recruitment Committee
- Women in STEM Recruitment Committee
For Faculty Hiring Committee Members
BU D&I holds regular and mandatory trainings for members of Faculty Hiring Committees. The purpose of these trainings is to empower committee members to think critically about faculty candidates’ applications and interviews, to share best practices for equitable hiring processes, and to mitigate unconscious bias in the interview process.
If a candidate has requested to speak to the Faculty of Color Recruitment Committee or the LGBTQIA+ Recruitment Committee, request a meeting time with committee members by using this form.

Emerging Scholars Program
Through the Emerging Scholars program, we seek to normalize the inclusion within our schools/colleges and departments of people who are underrepresented in the academy, including scholars from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups; enliven our curricula and intellectual/creative endeavors through consistent and substantive engagement with such emerging faculty; and extend and strengthen our national and international networks, thereby deepening our search pools and positively impacting our search outcomes.
