What to Expect

1) Screening Appointment

The first appointment is a no‑charge screening appointment to determine whether we can best meet your needs:

  • A limited evaluation and existing radiographs are reviewed; updated imaging may be required
  • Basic treatment options with general cost range are provided
  • You will be given more information about our educational setting, multi‑visit diagnostic process, and expected timelines

2) Assignment to a Prosthodontics Resident

If you are interested in starting treatment, you will be assigned to a resident provider within 2 weeks and will be contacted to schedule your comprehensive examination and records.

3) Diagnostic Phase (1–2 Visits)

Before any treatment begins, patients complete a structured diagnostic process:

  • Comprehensive oral evaluation
  • Radiographs (panoramic or CBCT as indicated)
  • Impressions and/or intraoral scans
  • Photographs
  • Occlusion analysis (bite evaluation)
  • Referrals to other specialists as need for a team approach

This diagnostic phase is required for all cases and must be completed before a treatment plan can be finalized and treatment can be started.

4) Treatment Planning

After diagnostic records are completed, you will be provided with a comprehensive treatment plan with the associated costs.

5) Treatment Timeline

Treatment duration varies significantly based on complexity:

  • Single crowns, onlays, or veneers: typically 2–3 visits
  • Partial or complete dentures: 4–6 visits
  • Single‑tooth implants: 3–12 months, depending on healing, bone quality, and whether grafting is required
  • Multiple implants or bridges: often 6–12+ months
  • Full‑mouth rehabilitation and Full‑arch implant reconstructions: staged over several months; may require provisional prostheses and interdisciplinary care. These comprehensive treatments may extend over 12–24+ months, depending on surgical needs, healing, and sequencing

Please note that treatment in an educational setting takes longer than private practice, and patients may be transferred to another resident provider if their assigned provider completes their training before treatment is completed.

6) Fees

Fees are based on GSDM’s annual fee schedule and are lower than treatment cost in private practice. There is a fee to complete all necessary diagnostic records that is separate than the cost of treatment.
