What to Expect

Your first appointment will be a three-hour appointment during which a student dentist, under the supervision of faculty, will complete a detailed medical history and complete a thorough dental examination to determine if your specific treatment needs are appropriate for the educational mission of the School. In addition to this examination, we will also take X-rays and possibly take models of your teeth.

If time allows, we will give you a complete treatment plan at this first appointment. Otherwise, the plan will be completed at the next visit along with a cleaning. Once a plan is agreed to, we can schedule an appointment to begin treatment.

1) Check-in & Registration

When you arrive at the dental school, check in with the patient coordinator at the reception desk. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early to complete your registration paperwork and medical history.

2) Medical & Dental History and Screening

During your first appointment, your provider will conduct a short examination to assess your dental health and will also review your medical and dental history to ensure that we have an accurate and comprehensive understanding of your oral health needs.

3) X-Rays (if applicable)

If you have not had your recent x-rays completed, we will complete a full set of x-rays.

4) Ongoing Treatment

After your screening and x-rays are completed and you have been accepted as a patient at the School, we will assign you to a student dentist for ongoing treatment and schedule your initial appointments. Subsequent appointments are typically three hours long in order to provide a comprehensive level of care. We will schedule your follow-up appointments at the end of your first appointment.

5) Specialty Consultation (if applicable)

Depending on the results of your screening and the complexity of your treatment needs, we may refer you to one of our specialty departments.
