Annual Gingerbread Contest Largest in School History

In what is becoming one of the most highly anticipated traditions at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM), the annual holiday Gingerbread House Making Contest drew 15 teams for this year’s event, held on December 11, 2017. The School cafeteria was filled to the brim with candy, frosting, cereal, and more as teams raced the clock to build their gingerbread masterpieces. In the end, only one could be the winner, as decided upon by the GSDM community that evening at the annual Holiday Party in Hiebert Lounge.

The rules were simple. Participants were to use only the supplies provided and construct a house within the allotted amount of time. The construction teams were provided with everything they needed: a gingerbread house kit, a tub of frosting, food coloring, candy, candy, and more candy.

After all the votes tallied, Dean Hutter announced that the Gingerbread Ski Lodge took top honors with 44 votes, that the winning team was made up of Justin Belk DMD 18 and Rafaella Sampaio DMD 18, and their prize was a catered lunch, courtesy of GSDM.

Second place received 38 votes, and had six team members: Michael Abboud DMD AS 19; Jimmy Alburquerque DMD AS 19; Poojan Danesha DMD AS 19; Zahra Gulamhussein DMD AS 19; Tejasveni Jangam DMD AS 19; and Uma Potluri DMD AS 19.

Third place went to another team made up of DMD AS 19 students: Wenyong Dai; Joanne Garcia; Mei-Hsuan Li; Wei Liu; Eli Madera; Sanjari Sanghani; and Yilin Shi.
