Assistant/Associate Professor of Computer Science

Lake Superior State University seeks candidates for a tenure-track position in Computer Science or Computer Networking. Applicants must have expertise in the following: databases (SQL required), computer networking, and system administration/system management. In addition, an ability to teach broadly across the curriculum in our B.S. Computer Networking or our B.S. Computer Science degree programs is also required. Applicants that are able to teach computer/network security, data analytics will be given preference.

Job Summary/Basic Function
The School of Mathematics and Computer Science at Lake Superior State University invites applicants for a tenure-track position in computer science, beginning Spring 2020 or Fall 2020. We seek an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and broadly trained faculty member with a demonstrated excellence in teaching. Professional and scholarly activities are expected, but quality undergraduate teaching is the primary responsibility. Responsibilities include teaching a minimum of 12 hours per semester, working with colleagues to strengthen our programs through both teaching and curriculum development, assessment of student learning, University service and scholarly activities, and support of student recruitment and retention efforts.

FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Under the direction of the Dean, provide course instruction to students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.) Minimum of 12 contract hours of teaching responsibilities per semester. Courses could include Database Applications, Managing Computer Security, Computer Networks or Network Operating Systems.
2.) Provide a minimum of 5 hours devoted to office hours for the purpose of student advising and support.
3.) Participation in professional and scholarly activities, including but not limited to research (broadly defined) and dissemination of knowledge of through publication, community, or presentations.
4.) Recruitment of students.
5.) Course and program assessment.
6.) University/community service.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Computer Science or closely related field with at least 18 hours of graduate level course work in computer science.
Evidence of experience teaching at the undergraduate level
Applicants must have expertise in one of the following: databases (SQL required), networks, or system administration/system management.
