Unlocking the Power of Feedback in Guided Online Learning
At the 6th Annual ACM Conference on Learning at Scale, held in Chicago June 24 and 25, Senior Instructional Designer Ye Liu presented her in-progress research with Dr. Eric Braude, titled “Guided-KNOWLA: The Use of Guided Unscrambling to Enhance Active Online Learning.” Liu and Dr. Braude have been measuring the effectiveness of Guided-Knowla (GK), a built-in self-learning approach for online modules. Based on Dr. Braude’s Knowledge Assessment (Knowla) system, the GK approach consists of learning and testing by rearranging fragments from a given set. The innovation in GK that has shown positive results is that students are corrected and receive feedback as they arrange each successive fragment.
