Undergraduate Registration Planning Tips and Resources
Book an appointment with your Academic Advisor as soon as possible to review your registration plan
Come to your appointment prepared with a list of courses you would like to take:
- Review the CS major requirements and Plan of Study (after selecting your program, scroll down to Advising Materials)
- Review the Pre-Reg FAQ written by the CS advising team.
- Utilize the online course search tool to check prerequisites* and HUB units
- Check your degree advice to view your degree progress.
*Note: Prerequisite requirements are strictly enforced. It is your responsibility to ensure you have met prerequisites for any given course. Students enrolled in courses for which they do not have the required prerequisite risk being dropped from the course without notice.
Please note:
- Only CS majors, CS joint majors, CS minors, and CGS CS students will be able to register for CS411 and CS412. These classes are closed to non-CS/CGS majors.
If you are unable to access the Planner, you may be out of compliance and need to follow instructions in your Student Link to complete any required tasks.
In-person and Virtual Drop-In Advising Hours are available every weekday. Please check our drop-in schedule for updates.
Keep an eye on your email for additional information and reminders throughout the registration period.

PhD Registration Planning Tips and Resources
In order to graduate in fall 2025 and/or remain an active student at BU, you must be registered for the fall semester. This can either be a course, directed study, or continuing study status. All international students must be registered to avoid any issues with their visa.
In order to initiate the process for continuing study status, please fill out the Continuing Study form after the registration period opens. Please have your advisor’s signature as well. To receive the Director of Graduate Studies’s signature, please send the form to csphd@bu.edu.
If you want to be registered for a directed study, please fill out this Directed Study Registration form.
If you are an international student and plan on using CPT, please apply through ISSO’s portal and allow at least 10 business days for ISSO to process the request by filling out the CPT Application.
If you have any questions for ISSO, please reach out to your respective International Student Advisor. Emma Daugherty (ecdaugh@bu.edu) supports students with last names A-L. Chris Moca (cmoca@bu.edu) supports students with last names M-Z. Please include your UID in any emails to ISSO.
