Building a Community for Everyone
In 2022, driven by the need for systemic change in the field of computer science, the Department of Computer Science at Boston University formulated a standing policy on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
The Department of Computer Science at Boston University is committed to building a community where everyone belongs. We celebrate and foster diversity across many aspects of our community, including race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic class, disability, religion, citizenship status, and country of origin. We are committed to:
- Integrating our DEI initiatives into our practices including:
- Recruitment
- Retention
- Curriculum
- Academic Programming
- Professional Development
- Fostering a more inclusive experience through consistent and transparent community engagement and feedback
- Publicly tracking the success of our DEI initiatives with climate surveys and by posting key metrics on our website
Our efforts will be cultivated by a DEI Committee composed of students, faculty, and staff. The Department’s commitments and initiatives will evolve and be updated over time.
You can track how we are approaching each part of our mission statement on our DEI Initiatives webpage.
