The nine-story Medical Student Residence is the first residential facility owned and operated by Boston University on the Medical Campus. Its construction responds to the pressing need for housing of high quality at an affordable price and within walking distance of the instructional, clinical, and research facilities at the Medical Campus. Designed specifically to meet the needs of medical students, the residence’s 104 two-bedroom suites house 208 students on eight residential floors, as well as provides common space to foster a sense of community.

With an 18-month construction schedule, work began in January 2011 and finished on time in mid-June 2012. The residence received its certificate of occupancy on June 22 and students began to move in on July 12, 2012.  Boston University Rental Property leases and manages the property for the School of Medicine.

The residence stands at the southwestern corner of the Medical Campus and takes the place of blighted structures that the University demolished in 2010. A nearly 9,000-square-foot public park is directly adjacent to the residence, offering a lovely green area with park benches and decorative post-and-chain fencing, with access from both the residence and from Albany Street.

With active student pedestrian traffic throughout the day, the Medical Student Residence brings life to this end of the Medical Campus in its fulfillment of a long-standing commitment to house our students where they begin their careers in medicine.
