Warren Towers Construction Update – 8/21/26

General Project Information

  • The team is currently in the main renovation phase of the project.
  • Weekday shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (1st shift) and 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (2nd shift). Weekend shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (1st shift).
  • Work on the exterior, outside and adjacent to student rooms, will be performed from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Work at street level, inside the fenced construction area, and deliveries will begin at 7:00 a.m.
  • Entering the jobsite: Authorized personnel only and no trespassing. Anyone wishing to enter the site must sign in at the construction field office and observe and comply with all posted signage and personal protective equipment requirements.

Exterior Work

South Alley

  • Concrete and steel structural repair work continues in the isolated work zone.

Tower A

North, South, East and West Facades

  • Flashing tie-in work at the exterior wall and podium roof intersections is ongoing.

Upper Roof

  • Mechanical equipment commissioning is ongoing.

Tower B

North, South, East and West Facades

  • Masons will continue exterior brick veneer restoration work, selective demolition, and the installation of restoration anchors, air, water, and vapor barriers, new lintels, flashings, and relieving angles.
  • Steel stud framing and sheathing at exterior window walls and openings is ongoing.
  • Installation of the air and water barriers is ongoing.

Upper Roof

  • New parapet construction is ongoing.
  • Masonry restoration on the elevator machine room headhouse is ongoing.
  • Work on the structural stub columns is ongoing.

Podium C Roof

  • The area is being used as a staging laydown area.

Podium D/Multipurpose Roof

  • The area is being used as a staging laydown area.
  • Work on constructing the new Boiler Room continues.

West Podium Terrace

  • Assembly and installation of heat pumps and condensers, piping, and electrical connections is ongoing.
  • HVAC equipment start-up and commissioning is ongoing.
  • Work on the acoustic roof screen assembly is ongoing.

Commonwealth Ave.

  • Masons will continue exterior brick veneer restoration work, selective demolition, and the installation of restoration anchors, air, water, and vapor barriers, new lintels, flashings, and relieving angles.

Cummington Mall

In and around the fenced area.

  • Daily deliveries of construction materials and the load-out of demolition debris dumpsters are ongoing.
  • The two-car personnel and materials hoist way is in operation for Tower B.
    • The elevator operators begin their daily safety checks and preventative maintenance on the hoist way at 6:00 a.m.

Cummington Mall West

  • Please watch for intermittent closures, BUPD detail officers, and cones, and observe all signage.

Hinsdale Mall

  • Please watch for sidewalk closures, BUPD detail officers, and cones, and observe all signage.

Interior Work

Main Entrance Lobby

  • The new escalators have been inspected, turned over, and are fully operational.
  • Drywall work in the Fire Command Center is ongoing.

Tower A

  • Tower A has been turned over and is ready for student move-in.

  • Demolition is ongoing, and debris is loaded into hampers, transported, and emptied into dumpsters located in the construction loading dock.
  • Abatement is ongoing, and crews are working two shifts. Debris is loaded into trailers located in the construction loading dock.
  • Survey crews are setting benchmarks and layout points on each floor.
  • Floor slab coring, cutting, and grinding is ongoing.
  • Cutting of the concrete slab edge at every window opening is ongoing.
  • Installation of fire protection sprinkler risers, mains, branch lines, and heads is ongoing.
  • Rough HVAC sheet metal ductwork, piping, and controls wiring is ongoing.
  • Fuel oil riser installation is ongoing.
  • Rough plumbing is ongoing.
  • Rough electrical and fire alarm work is ongoing.
  • Installation of structural steel clips, plates, kickers, and beam penetrations is ongoing.
  • Interior steel stud framing of walls, soffits, and ceilings is ongoing.

Multipurpose Room

  • The Multipurpose Room has been turned over, and no work is planned in this area.

  • Construction is near completion, and punch list work is ongoing.
  • Food service station and equipment installations are ongoing.
  • Staff training and preparation for opening are ongoing.
  • Mechanical systems commissioning is ongoing.

Parking Garage

  • Parking and temporary bike storage are open.
  • Electricians will continue running wiring and conduits throughout the parking garage on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd levels.
  • Plumbers are installing new equipment, water lines, and drain lines in the basement and on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd levels.
  • Concrete and steel structural repair work continues in the parking garage on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors.
  • Sprinkler work on all levels is ongoing.
  • Masons are installing block walls in the new bike storage room.
  • Excavation and installation of new drainage piping and gas and oil separator equipment in the basement is ongoing.
