Warren Towers Construction Update – 5/8/26

General Project Information

  • Weekday shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (1st shift), 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (1st shift for work outside/adjacent to student rooms), 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (2nd shift), and 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (3rd shift). Weekend shifts operate from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • The team is currently in the main renovation phase of the project.
  • Entering the jobsite: Authorized personnel only and no trespassing. Anyone wishing to enter the site must sign in at the construction office, observe and comply with all posted signage and personnel protective equipment requirements.

During the Weekend of 5/9/26

Saturday & Sunday (1st, 2nd & 3rd shift)

Exterior Work

Tower A

  • Parapet abatement/demolition east and west of Tower A above the Dining Hall.
  • Crews will continue disassembling staging.
  • Sealing and caulking of windows and metal trim panels.
  • Masons are working on punch list items and touchups identified by the design team.
  • Installation of new door opening on the sidewalk at the fire pump room on the street level.
  • Steel stud framing of window openings and closing of the building access leave out sections.
  • Installation of windows and metal trim and caulking.

  • Disassembly of the hoist way access bridge and staging disassembly.
  • Work on the emergency backup generator connections continues.
  • Work continues inside the new mechanical penthouse and emergency electric room.
  • Assembly/installation of DOAS unit, piping, sheet metal ductwork and electrical connections.
  • Installation of metal panel roof screen.

Tower B

  • Staging crews will continue assembling scaffolding on levels 5 through 18. Please keep blinds, drapes, and window treatments closed for privacy.
  • Crews will be removing masonry supplies and equipment on Saturday via crane.
  • Assembly/installation of heat pumps and condensing units, piping and electrical connections.
  • Work on the acoustic roof screen assembly is ongoing.
  • Work continues constructing the new boiler room.
  • Installation of new roofing system and parapets.

Cummington Mall
(In and around the fenced area)

  • A crane will set up on Cummington Mall to hoist materials from the West Terrace – this will impact patient and reserved parking.
Pictured is work on the west terrace.
  • Two-car personnel and materials hoist way remains in operation.
    • (The elevator operators begin their safety checks and preventative maintenance on the hoistway daily at 6:00 AM)
  • Crews will be using this hoist way this weekend with the dining hall demo.

Cummington Mall West

  • BUPD detail officers and construction staff will be on-site to assist with pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Hinsdale Mall

  • Crews are installing scaffolding on the east end of the building.
  • Warren Towers garage (Lot K) will remain open for normal operation over the weekend.
  • Please watch for sidewalk closures, BUPD detail officers, cones, and observe posted signage.

Interior Work

Tower A

  • Steel stud framing of interior partitions and soffits.
  • Installation of hollow metal door frames.
  • Application of spray fireproofing, expanding foam insulation, and firestopping continues.
  • New window installation continues in the south rooms.
  • Drywall installation and taping.
  • Plaster patching at columns and beams continues.
  • Stair handrail and riser alterations.
  • Prime and painting of walls, ceilings, soffits, doors, and door frames.
  • Floor preparation, waterproofing, and tile installation is ongoing in the core bathrooms.
  • Resilient flooring and base installations in student dorm rooms.
  • Wall tile installation in corridors.
  • Installation of doors and hardware and millwork and accessories.
  • Install of solid surface countertops, windowsills, and wall panels.
  • Installation of window treatments.
  • Modernization and daily operation of the Tower elevators by Otis Elevator company continues.
  • Finish plumbing, electrical and mechanical and fire protection in progress.
  • Interior final cleaning is ongoing.

Dining Hall

  • Milestone Weekend: Dining Hall renovation kickoff – Dining Hall staff will pack up and move out on Saturday.
  • The Dining Hall renovation work is planned for 3 shifts, 7 days a week until opening in the fall.

Parking Garage

  • Minimal work activities planned this weekend; work will be isolated within new mechanical rooms/tented enclosures to assist in student move out.
  • Dining hall freight elevator pit cleaning on Sunday.

Exterior Work

Tower A

  • Demolition of mechanical equipment, mechanical penthouses, roof systems, and skylight east and west of Tower A.
  • Masons are working on punch list items and touchups identified by the design team.
  • Crews will be working to disassemble the staging.

Dining Hall

  • The Dining Hall renovation work is planned for 3 shifts, 7 days a week until opening in the fall.
  • Skylight demolition at the entrance.

Parking Garage

  • Dining Hall freight elevator modernization by Otis.
  • Electricians will continue running wiring and conduits throughout the parking garage, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd levels.
  • Installation and assembly of electrical gear continues.
  • Plumbers are installing new equipment, water and drain lines in the basement, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd levels.
  • Installation of mechanical piping continues.
  • Construction of the new fuel storage room is ongoing in the southeast basement level of the parking garage.
  • MDF room construction continues.
  • Concrete and steel structural repair work continues in the parking garage on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors.

  • Work on fuel oil storage and pump system in basement level.
  • Masons are installing block walls in the new mechanical and electric rooms.
