Warren Towers Renovation Construction Update – 3/27/26

General Project Information

  • Weekday shifts run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (1st shift), 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (1st shift for work outside/adjacent to student rooms), 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (2nd shift), and 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (3rd shift). Weekend shifts operate from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • The team is currently in the main renovation phase of the project.
  • Entering the jobsite: Authorized personnel only & no trespassing. Anyone wishing to enter the site must sign in at the construction office, observe and comply with all posted signage and personnel protective equipment requirements.

Exterior Work

Tower A

4th Floor Podium Roofs

  • Low roofs will be used as laydown areas for tools, supplies, and materials as the staging is getting disassembled.
  • Staging crews will be removing their material from the lower roof levels using a mobile crane.

East & West Facades

  • Sealing and caulking of windows and metal trim panels.
  • Masons are working on punch list items and touchups identified by the design team.

Front Façade and on Commonwealth Avenue

  • Sealing and caulking of windows and metal trim panels.
  • Masons are working on punch list items and touchups identified by the design team.
  • Installation of new door opening on the sidewalk at the fire pump room.

Rear Façade and Back Alley

  • Steel stud framing of window openings and closing of the building access leave out sections.
  • Installation of windows and metal trim along with caulking.
  • Masons will continue with exterior brick veneer restoration work, selective demolition, installation of restoration anchors, air, water, and vapor barriers, new lintels, flashings, and relieving angles.
  • Disassembly of the hoist way access bridge.

Upper Roof

  • Work on the emergency backup generator connections continues.
  • Work continues on constructing the new mechanical penthouse and emergency electric room.
  • Assembly and installation of the DOAS unit, piping, sheet metal ductwork, and electrical connections continue.
  • Installation of metal panel roof screen.

      Tower B

      North, South, East, and West Facades

      • Staging crews will continue assembling scaffolding on levels 5 through 18.

      West Podium Terrace

      • Assembly and installation of heat pumps and condensers, including piping and electrical connections, continues on the mechanical platform.
      • Carpenters are working on the acoustic roof screen assembly.

      Multipurpose Room Roof (Podium D)

      • Work continues on constructing the new boiler room.
      • Installation of new roofing system and parapets.

      Cummington Mall
      (In and around the fenced area)

      • Daily deliveries of tools, supplies, and materials will be received at the construction loading docks within the fenced area.
      • Two-car personnel and materials hoist way remains in operation.
        • (The elevator operators begin their safety checks and preventative maintenance on the hoistway daily at 6:00 AM)
      • Tower B hoist way bridge construction is ongoing.

      Cummington Mall West

      • BUPD detail officers and construction staff will be on-site to assist with pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

      Hinsdale Mall

      • Crews are installing scaffolding on the east end of the building.
      • Warren Towers garage (lot K) will remain open.
      • Please watch for sidewalk closures, BUPD detail officers, cones, and observe signage.

        Interior Work

        Tower A

        • Rough-in of HVAC piping, electrical, fire alarm, plumbing, and sheet-metal ductwork is ongoing.
        • Pressure testing of mechanical piping and sheet metal ductwork.
        • Steel stud framing of interior partitions and soffits.
        • Installation of hollow metal door frames.
        • Application of spray fireproofing, expanding foam insulation, and firestopping continues.
        • New window installation continues.
        • Drywall installation and taping.
        • Plaster patching at columns and beams continues.
        • Stair handrail and riser alterations.
        • Prime and painting of walls, ceilings, soffits, doors, and door frames.
        • Floor preparation, waterproofing, and tile installation are ongoing in the core bathrooms.
        • Flooring and base installations in student dorm rooms.
        • Wall tile installation in corridors.
        • Installation of doors, hardware, and millwork.
        • Installation of solid surface countertops, windowsills, and hand drier panels.
        • Modernization of the tower elevators by Otis Elevator Company continues Saturdays and Sundays.
        • Finalization of plumbing, electrical and mechanical.

                Dining Hall

                • Crews will be making drain connections.

                  Parking Garage 

                  • Work continues in main electrical room.
                  • Electricians will continue running wiring, conduits, and electrical gear throughout the parking garage, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd levels.
                  • Installation and assembly of electrical gear continues.
                  • Plumbers are installing new water and drain lines in the basement, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd levels.

                  • Construction of the new fuel storage room is ongoing in the southeast basement level of the parking garage.
