Kilachand Hall Phase 2 – Construction Update – 5/5/23
General Project Information
Daily Work Hours from 7 am – 3 pm.
The Traffic Management Plan for the project has been approved by the Boston Transportation Department and is in place.
Relocated accessible parking spaces posted for use on 6/29 (in front of 81 and 83 Bay State Road).
Jersey barrier site containment in place, pedestrian walkway also in place and operational. The city sidewalk in front of Kilachand Hall is permitted to be used as part of the construction site limits.
A Boston police detail is on site daily assisting with traffic control and safety.
Bike lane is fully functional in front of Kilachand Hall.
BU parking spots directly behind Kilachand Hall on Back Street remain a “no parking zone”. This will continue for the project duration to maintain an adequate drive lane for local traffic on Back Street and allow the construction team to safely contain a work area north of the dormitory.
A large portion of scaffolding has been removed from the south elevation.
Saturday, May 6th
Consigli- 2 workers on site.
Riggs Masonry is on site for clean-up and support. (5 laborers and 1 carpenter)
Mass Acoustics will be framing level 9 and installing sheetrock on levels 8 and 9. They will also have tapers on level 8. (10 workers)
Murphy will be working on the above ceiling rough on level 9, the mechanical room panels, and the generator build out. (8 workers)
Royal Steam will send pipefitters and tin knockers for the duct installation and the VRF system piping on level 9. (8 workers)
Titan will send roofers and tin knockers to work on the northeast and northwest roofs, continuing with the metal panel, gutters, and downspouts. (10 workers)
JC Floors will be installing carpet in *04 suites. They will also be tiling in remaining elevator lobbies. (4 workers)

Occupant Impacts: Week of May 8th
The project team acknowledges the quiet study and exam period. There will be no work on the exterior façade. Most of the work will be isolated to the level 9 renovation area. Some minimal finish work will still occur on levels 2 through 7 in the southwest renovation area.
During the Week of May 8th
Badd Bros will install stair stringers, landings, and pans from levels 8 to 9.
Royal Steam will continue the HVAC build out of the level 9 mechanical room and the Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system piping and duct work on level 9.
Murphy Electric will continue with rough work on levels 8 and 9, as well as the overhead rough on level 9. They will also be building out electrical panels in the level 9 mechanical room and building out the new emergency generator.
Mass Acoustics continues with the cement board decking installation over framing, and continues with the partition framing and sheetrock on level 9. Level 1 stair core shaft wall installation should also get underway, along with clean-up work on level 8 (sheetrock and taping.)
Titan continues with the roof installation in all areas as well as the metal panel, gutter, and flashing installations.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator mechanics will start the adjusting process.
JC Floors to work on completing the tile installation in the elevator lobbies and the carpet installation in the *04 suites.
Egan Painters are continuing work with concrete bocks and railings in the stairwell.
Consigli/Riggs team is on site for cleaning, site support and supervision.
