Tori Lee’s research focuses broadly on the tradition of Latin literature and its reception in contemporary society. Her interests range from translation and feminism to concepts of obscenity in antiquity and the focalization of marginalized voices and non-canonical texts. Her current project book project applies a lens of critical classical reception to the investigation of sexual and intimate partner violence in ancient pastoral literature. She enjoys teaching Latin language and literature courses, as well as courses in translation on drama, elegy, ancient medicine, and social history.
Tori is an advocate for public writing about Classics, which she promotes as Assistant Editor of the Society for Classical Studies blog, and formerly as Assistant Editor at Eidolon Journal. She also serves as Programming Coordinator for the Asian and Asian American Classical Caucus, volunteer with CripAntiquity, and member of the leadership collective of the Sportula, a mutual aid organization for students of the ancient world. She received her Ph.D. in 2022 from Duke University, where she co-founded the diversity committee in the Classical Studies department and led discussions in its anti-racist reading group.
Outside of work, Tori enjoys dance fitness classes, crossword puzzles, and food documentaries; she is an avid fan of the New York Mets and Duke basketball.
