Professor Michele Ronnick
Professor Michele Ronnick, Wayne State University

We would like to congratulate Prof. Michele Valerie Ronnick (PhD alum, 1990; currently Professor at Wayne State University), for winning the Merita Award from the American Classical League! An innovator within Classical Studies, Michele Ronnick broke new ground in exploring the importance of Latin and Greek literature for American history and culture. She has undertaken extensive archival research into the lives of Black Classicists, especially William Sanders Scarborough, and has published editions of Scarborough’s autobiography, scholarship and other writings. She also curated the photographic exhibition “Portraits of Black Classicists”, which came to Boston University in 2016. The Merita Award recognizes sustained and distinguished service to the American Classical League and to the profession, and is a highly prestigious award. We send our heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Ronnick!
