Yanni Metaxas wins Center for Hellenic Studies Internship
BU Modern Greek Student Yanni Metaxas wins Center for Hellenic Studies 2016 Internship
Harvard University’s Center for Hellenic Studies has recently awarded a summer internship in Greece to Yanni Metaxas, a minor in Modern Greek Studies who attended the BUPh Summer Study in Greece in 2014. A former Core Curriculum student and a major in Mathematics, Yanni continues his studies in Modern Greek and Classics, taking both Advanced Modern Greek and Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire this term. Through the efforts of Ms. Kelly Polychroniou, Head of BU’s Modern Greek program, working with Dr. Nicolas Prevelakis, the Assistant Director of Curricular Development for the Center, Yanni has become only the second non-Harvard student from the United States to hold this prestigious award. The Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece works to foster collaboration between scholars of different nations to promote greater understanding of Hellenic civilization. Yanni Metaxas will work in Nafplio, partnering with a Greek student on a team project that combines academic, linguistic, and civic components. The Department thanks Dr. Nicolas Prevelakis and the Center for Hellenic Studies and offers its congratulations to Yanni, and to Kelly Polychroniou and the Modern Greek Program for this outstanding achievement!
