Biography:

Gerald Autler is Director of Trails and Greenways at the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), where he leads a team of 10 professionals who plan, build, and maintain the Commonwealth’s network of shared use paths (greenways) and woodland trails for hiking, mountain biking, and other recreational uses. This work involves capital budget planning, management and oversight of design and construction projects, and permitting under the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, Chapter 91, and other statutes.

Prior to joining DCR, Gerald spent more than 16 years at the Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) working on a variety of planning, rezoning, and development projects, as well as college and university planning, notably Harvard University’s Allston campus planning and expansion. During his time at the agency he also led the conceptualization and launch of Imagine Boston 2030, the city’s first citywide master plan in more than 50 years.

Before joining the BPDA, Gerald worked as a consultant in California, focused on economic development strategies and transit-oriented development. Gerald, who lives with his family in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, received his AICP certification from the American Planning Association in 2014.
