CIMS Professor Jennifer Cazenave Hosts Screening at Coolidge Corner Theatre
CIMS Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies Jennifer Cazenave recently hosted a screening at the Coolidge Corner Theatre for her course, “Auteur Filmmaking: Céline Sciamma & Sébastien Lifshitz.”
During this special day of class, students watched Lifshitz’s latest film, Casa Susanna (2022), before staying in the theater to have their usual in-class discussion.
Of the screening, Professor Cazenave says, “As the notion of the auteur emerged in postwar France, at a time of moviegoing and cinephilia, I wanted the class to have the opportunity to go to the movies together as a community.”
Casa Susanna is Lifshitz’s most recent documentary film and tells the story of a group of transgender women and cross-dressing men who found refuge in a house in the Catskills area of New York.
This semester’s “Auteur Filmmaking” course focuses on contemporary queer French cinema by featuring two French auteurs: Céline Sciamma, who makes fiction films, and Sébastien Lifshitz, who makes documentary films.
