Professor Chun-Jun Guo from Weill Cornell Medicine will present at Chemistry Colloquium lecture.

Title: Using genetics to explore microbe-host interactions at the molecular level

Abstract: The gut microbiota could modulate host biology in multiple ways, but the underlying molecular mechanisms are largely unexplored. In this short presentation, I will talk about our efforts in the development of genetic manipulation pipeline for nonmodel human gut microbes to manipulate a single microbiota gene in the context of a complex microbiome, and how we apply these tools to probe the metabolic function of gut microbiota and investigate its impact on host nutrient homeostasis and physiology. Our findings expand our knowledge of the metabolic potential of the microbiota and provide opportunities to investigate the host-microbe interaction at the level of molecular mechanisms.
