Wheelock Family Theatre shares CFA’s core commitments to artistic excellence, diversity, inclusion, and improving the lives of others through the arts.

Founded in 1981 and adopted into Boston University in 2018, Wheelock Family Theatre is one of the largest professional theaters in Boston with performances having been seen by more than one million people. Its impressive outreach to Boston and Greater Boston schools enables Wheelock Family Theatre to entertain and educate approximately 15,000 visiting schoolchildren every year.

Wheelock Family Theatre’s mission: “[To] create inter-generational and multicultural productions that provide a shared experience for the whole family. Our productions celebrate the diverse range of families found in the world today and seek to unite them in the shared experience of live theatre. We are dedicated to those who are historically under-served: people of color, people with disabilities, and low-income families. We know that it is not only children who are ‘at risk’ in our society — but entire families and communities.”

College of Fine Arts students, faculty, and alumni are often involved in WFT’s productions, as performers and on design and production teams. All BU students can attend same day, evening Wheelock Family Theatre productions by simply showing their student ID.
