  • Starts: 7:30 pm on Friday, December 5, 2025
  • Ends: 9:30 pm on Friday, December 5, 2025

Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Music presents The Balinese World Music Ensemble, directed by Professor Brita Heimarck.

This traditional story from Pakistan crafted by Guest Artist Ayyaz Ahmed (CFA'26), a graduate student in the Department of Musicology and Ethnomusicology at Boston University, depicts themes of loss, grief, and the immortality of love, taking place across the mountains and plains of Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab, and Dera Ghazi Khan (Pakistan). It tells the story of a boy named Sohrab Khan of the Marri tribe, who lived in the mountains of Kahan, and his journey into an enlightened state of divine love.

Ayyaz will sing traditional Balochi folk poetry that is a love poem, and will play a lute with three double-strings and alternately a harmonium pump-organ, accompanied by Dorothy Wing Sze (CFA'26) on the tabla, a pair of North Indian drums.

The performance is free and open to the public.
