We are thrilled to announce that a number of students and alums from Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Music,  Boston University Opera Institute, and Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI) have completed their first round of virtual auditions for The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. These individuals have been selected to continue to the next district round.

“Seeing our students achieve success in this challenging and unstable moment in time is truly rewarding,” says William Lumpkin, Artistic Director of the Opera Institute. “Their commitment to excellence and willingness to take risks are attributes that will take them a long way in this ever-advancing art form.”

The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions is a program designed to discover promising young opera singers and assist in the development of their careers. The auditions take place in 39 Districts and 12 Regions throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico.

Held at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, the National Semifinals concert is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 9, 2021 and the Grand Finals Concert is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 16, 2021.  Alternate plans will be made if they are unable to host the concerts in person.
