Emily Deschanel (CFA’98, Hon.’25) addressed graduates at Commencement on May 18, 2025. The day before, she addressed CFA grads at the College of Fine Arts Convocation ceremony.

Actor, producer, environmentalist, and animal rights activist Emily Deschanel reflects on her time at Boston University College of Fine Arts, from performing in student productions to becoming the star of the hit FOX show Bones for over a decade. She shares advice for aspiring artists and fond memories from her college years. “If you define for yourself what good art is… you’ll be prouder of your work and it’ll be more uniquely you.”
